#16daysofactivism

By participating in this challenge between Wednesday 25th November to Thursday 10th December 2020 you can help bring an end to gender based violence globally, starting with your immediate community.

What to Know

Gender Based Violence (GBV) is a violation of human rights. It denies the human dignity of the individual and hurts human development.

What to Know

Both women and men can experience gender based violence but the majority of victims are women and girls.

What to Know

Over the years, across the world, women and girls face the possibility of being subjected to harm simply because they are female for this reason the Women’s Global Leadership Institute initiated the 16 days of activism against gender based violence in 1991.

Open letter to all young activists on the occasion of the 16 Days of activism Campaign

Dear young activist,

You are powerful and the world needs you.

This year we want you to be more aware of the causes of gender based violence and help your community take action against it. The world is facing a rampant increase in cases of gender based violence, this situation is worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic the lockdowns that keep individuals at home with their abusers and also keep victims away from support resources. The situation must not get worse than what we are experiencing currently and as such we are calling on all concerned people who are tired of experiencing and or hearing about cases of violence on the basis of gender especially cases of violence on women and girls–we are calling on you young activists to take action to bring an end to gender based violence.

Gender Based Violence can occur in many forms that go beyond physical violence. Some victims experience emotional and psychological violence. There are also prevailing inequalities that support the continuous existence of gender based violence.

You don’t have to be in a position of power to create the change you want to see in our world, you can start by being more aware and speaking up.

We at Wadi Ben-Hirki Foundation are challenging you to stand against gender based violence by participating in the #WBHFx16daysofactivism Challenge. We belong to each other and none of us are safe until all of us are safe. Together we can #orangetheworld.

Signed

WBHF Team.
